Sony VS CAnon
dear friends.. I am a promotor in one hypermarket...
when I give demo to customers of canon it gives less colors compare to sony
2nd thing. .when i take close photo.. canon focuses the object in the center.. and rest background and all become dark where as sony captures both with good background and sharp center..
i know.. there is the difference in the tune of a picture.. but nobody go for the natural thing.. canon gives more natural picture compare to sony
in middleeast sony is more demanding also
im dealing in these models. plz give me any solution which can help me to sell more canon by showing the major difference..
if you know.. the major differnces.. plz do let me.. know..
onemore thing.. when i take photos.. on auto of models like ixus 850is and g7..
and when i gave it for developing it gave me so many grains on the photo.. and the background colors were little dull..
photos were without flash.. and lightening was okay as it should be in the mall..
these are the models..
canon psa550, 560, 710is, a630, a640, 400d, ixus 800is ixus 850is, ixus 75, ixus 70.

It's one of my pleasure for discutions and make new friends.
Well CARL ZEISS have one powerfull trade on lens manufacture in Germany ( i know on my old film SLR camera - PRAKTIKA ) . In 1887 Richard Hüttig founded the first camera manufacturing company in Dresden (between 1945 and 1989 the German Demorat Republic) Now, that are not produced DSLR camera, only compact camera.
LEICA are another quality german manufacturer since 1913. Now, Leica branded lenses are used on many Panasonic .
- CANON are know on the proffesional camera manufacture .

In the DSLR market, I don't think there are many debates about the market leaders such as Canon and Nikon. I am a Canon user as you can see the group name suggests.
But I am here not to criticise any manufacturers but to comment about your lens knowledge.
There are only a hand full of proper and good lens manufacturers. Sony isn't one of them and hence they contract Carl Zeiss to make the lenses for them. In Digital compact cameras, excuse me, the so-call Carl Zeiss lens is useless. There's no difference of what so ever in optic quality as:
1. CCD sensor is way too small and poor quality (compare to DSLR) to notice the difference in good lens or what. Unless you go for something larger such as the G9 or G10, P5000 or P6000, or even Sigma's DP1 and DP2. Small Sony compacts are gimmicks for point-and-shooter who is more interested in taking snap shots for friends at party then quality landscape or portraits.
2. Lens size is way too small and virtually every lens manufacturers is capable of making similar lens for compact digital cameras.
3. Carl Zeiss is a named used by Sony to make their cameras sounds better and attach some history and reputation to their products. Same as Nokia uses Carl Zeiss in their mobile phone...
Lens design is very complex, optical design, coating, and body design must be integrated perfectly. However, it's design and coating does contribute to the different 'characteristics' you see in the pictures.
If you shoot Jpeg a lot, then you will notice some minor differences. You will notice more if you use films. But if you use RAW, the difference can be subtle but a good lens still give you better saturation, contrast and details.
Nikon lenses are generally very warm and sharp, good details.
Canon lenses are generally very neutral and also sharp, very good details.
Leica lenses are renown for their high contrast and warm tone.
Carl Zeiss lenses have good saturation and good contrast.
There are others, Sigma, Tamaron, Pentax, Olympus, Tokina...
You need to be shooting a lot, learn more about the lenses to appreciate them.
What I mentioned for Canon and Nikon are for the top professional series lenses only. Normal kit lens are worthless and produce no better quality then top range compacts.
I hope this helps .
If you are interested in lens design, Google it and lots of info will come up.
Remarks: Each lens has its own 'sweet' spot where you can achieve its highest detail range at certain aperture, most commonly F5.6 ~ F11 depending on lens design.
