Is live-view the future?
The new Canon EOS 1D Mark III is by far the best pro camera (bar the 1Ds Mk II for resolution). In terms of dynamic range of its 16-bit RAW capturing from it's Digi III processor, the images will be much more 'alive'.
It also features something called 'Live-View' that's currently used in four-third cameras (such as Olympus, Panasonic and Leica SLRs) or more commonly know from normal digial compact cameras. So you don't use your optical view-finder and instead, use the LCD screen at the back of the camera.
I prefer Optical as it get's the true details and much brighter to use in daylight situation but I guess for some shots, LCD projection is quite a convenient tool.
Have you say?

Well, Live-view is actually used from the very first day when digital compacts were introduced. In the older days, digital compacts had both optical and digital view finders but recently, the designers took it out completely so they could make the compacts even more compact!
DSLR started using Live-view massively by Olympics' 4/3 system. Panasonic and Leica started follow suit and now Canon's latest EOS 1D MK III features a similar system. So I guess you will see this system will filter down to all future EOS models.
It's not for everyone and I still prefer optical and yet, sometimes, live-view is very useful... like low angle macro!
