One summer night about two years ago, the deep wailing of a cat in pain was so loud it echoed down Maywood Street. From the sound of things, a man thought it was just two felines going at it in a turf brawl or a disagreement over a female. After about 15 minutes of wondering when "the fight" would end, he shut the window, went to sleep and forgot about it.
The following morning, he decided to stroll over to the park surrounding Crystal Pond for a quick walk. About 80 feet from the bank lay a motionless black cat, flies swarming around it, dead, with its yellow eyes still open. A closer look was even more unsettling , a telephone cord was wrapped around its neck.
